Devona joins W&A Engineering as a Project Manager with nearly a decade of experience working in civil site design across the greater Charlotte area. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and certificate in Architecture from Princeton University where she played basketball as a three-time All-Ivy selection. Finishing her college career with 1,177 points in a 115-game career, she went on to play professionally in Sweden before retiring to focus her efforts on civil engineering.
“I circled back to civil engineering where my excitement for building from zero initiated; where all that I had accomplished could be put to great use for the betterment of communities everywhere,” Smith said. “From understanding the importance and necessity of utility coordination to understanding all the ways in which technology can propel the construction and land development industry, and even recognizing the goals of municipalities trying to balance the need to adapt to growth with the restraint of preserving nature and history, each of my experiences were the right choice for me because they would give breadth and depth to my passion for contributing to the growth of something spectacular.”
Outside of the office, Devona often finds herself in the kitchen creating vegan variations of her favorite dishes and putting her own spin on her latest Pinterest finds. She enjoys bass fishing with her husband and creating memories with her kids. Having travelled all over the world both personally and professionally, she loves that she’s gotten to settle down in at home.
“All of the work that I’ve been a part of in Huntersville stands out to me because Huntersville is where I grew up,” Smith added. “It’s been amazing to not only see but also be a contributor to the growth and development of the area.”
We’re so glad to have Devona Smith as part of our team of design professionals building better communities for our clients across the country. Welcome to the team, Devona!
