Soil and Environmental Consulting

W&A Engineering offers soil and environmental consulting services in NE Georgia and surrounding areas. In addition to using state of the art equipment, we employ well trained specialists who are professional and courteous. Christian Hoadley, MS, CPSS serves as the department head for our environmental services department. Mr. Hoadley obtained his Master’s degree in Forest Resources from The University of Georgia in May 2014. He is a Certified Professional Soil Scientist (CPSS) and Georgia Department of Public Health Certified Soil Classifier (DPH CSC). Mr. Hoadley’s experience in the field of environmental consulting include soil mapping, septic system layout and design, wetland delineation, stream classification, stormwater infiltration testing, and Phase I Environmental Site Assessments.

Level II Soil Investigation

Pre-Development Lot Review (Level II Soil Study)

A pre-development review (Level II Soil Investigation) is a preliminary site inspection and feasibility study intended to identify general soil patterns on large acreage tracts for initial land development objectives.

level III Soil Survey

High Intensity Soil Study (Level III Soil Study)

The purpose of a high intensity soil study (Level III Soil Survey) is to identify, delineate and interpret the suitability of the soil series found on the site as it pertains to use for an on-site sewage management system.

Level IV Soil Study

Special Soil Investigations (Level IV Soil Study)

A special soil investigation (Level IV Soil Study) expands an existing Level III Soil Survey in thoroughness and/or detail and may be required by the County Board of Health when additional soil data is needed to adequately address site suitability and/or system design when alternative on-site management systems are proposed.

Septic System Layout

Septic System Layout & Site Plans

We offer commercial & residential septic system layout and site plan design services for submittal to county health departments for on-site wastewater permitting.

Environmental Site Assessments

Phase I Environmental Site Assessments

The objective of a Phase I Environmental Site (ESA) Assessment is to identify potential recognized environmental conditions (RECs) in connection with the project site. The Phase I process evaluates historical and current land use and identifies known or suspected environmental conditions through a thorough physical site assessment, document review (permits, prior reports…), historical information, environmental records review, and interviews.

Stream Classification

Stream Classification

We offer field identification of ephemeral, intermittent and perennial streams using geomorphic, hydrologic, and biological stream features. Proper stream classification is an integral component of project planning to stay in compliance with local, state and federal regulations.

Environmental Site Assessments

Wetland Identification & Delineation

Wetland delineations are conducted in accordance with the 1987 US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Wetland Delineation Manual. Wetlands must meet three specific criteria to be classified as a wetland: hydric soils, hydrophytric vegetation, and hydrology. Our wetland identification and delineation services include soil and vegetation mapping, field delineation, wetland boundary survey using sub-meter GPS system, map preparation, and report submittal to USACE.

Stormwater Infiltration Services

Stormwater Infiltration Services

Many commercial and residential projects have regulatory requirements for the control of stormwater runoff. Infiltration testing is typically required for the design of on-site stormwater control practices. Field percolation tests or double-ring infiltrometer tests are the most common methods employed to establish a measured infiltration rate.
