Growing With W&A: Meet Erin Barnes!

Erin Barnes is an intern on our Civil Engineering team who has been building better communities with W&A Engineering since June 2021. As a Civil intern, she works on a wide variety of aspects of our site design projects. From site plan work and sanitary sewer profiles to stormwater runoff calculations and sheet setup, Erin is constantly learning new things on the job. With her always-positive disposition, Erin is always happy to take on new challenges in order to the engineering team find innovative solutions along a project’s lifecycle.

With a degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Georgia’s College of Engineering, Erin’s goal is to make communities more environmentally-friendly. She focuses largely on meticulously identifying materials, reviewing regulations for site development, and considering the best energy sources for a project to rely on.

When chatting about her favorite parts of working at W&A, Erin notes her workload diversity, her coworkers, and the events hosted by the firm.

“I’m never bored! I love how welcoming, trusting, and funny my coworkers are; they make my days at work even more enjoyable,” she said. “W&A cares about us as people—not just employees.”

In her personal life, Erin is a First-Year Administration Intern at the Wesley Foundation where she helps process donations made to the organization, mentors college students, and makes treats for first-time visitors and staff members. She’s an avid reader and board game player, and she loves hiking, paddle boarding, and taking on new adventures. On a Saturday night, you might find her sharing a meal with friends at Ted’s Most Best, Maepole, or Trappeze in Athens or perhaps exploring nature areas such as Oconee Forest park, Lake Herrick, or the Botanical Gardens.

We’re grateful to have dedicated, talented, and ambitious team members like Erin building better communities at W&A Engineering, and we cannot wait to see her impact on the industry in the coming years!
