Growing with W&A: Meet Jason Gaines, AICP

Please join us in welcoming Jason Gaines, AICP to our team of professionals building better communities out of Atlanta, Georgia!

A Senior Planner in our Planning and Landscape Architecture department, Jason joins W&A Engineering with nearly 20 years of experience working in local government around Metro Atlanta. He brings with him a perspective of empathy and understanding for city/county government staffs and the communities that they serve. Prior to joining W&A, Jason spent two years with the City of Roswell as the Director of Community Development, where he managed a staff of professionals responsible for administering a wide variety of regulatory functions, including building permitting and inspections, site plan review, land disturbance, erosion control, stream buffer protection, and planning & zoning. Jason has tons of experience managing planning studies, preparing local comprehensive plans, and writing proposals for federal grants.

“I believe that my combination of experience and skills will be a great asset to W&A,” Jason said. “I am ecstatic to be a part of such a great team!”

Earlier in his career, Jason Gaines wrote a successful grant application for funds that were applied to a multi-use path project along Floyd Road in Cobb County. The project served as a catalyst to transform the roadway from a somewhat narrow, car-dominant thoroughfare to a complete street that provides safe mobility options for walkers, transit rides, bicyclists, and others.

“The project still holds a special place for me because I used to live in the immediate area and drove the corridor daily,” Jason said. “Just knowing that work I was involved in had such a profound impact on my community meant a lot to me, and it still means a lot today.”

When the workday is done, Jason initiates dad and husband mode (and he wouldn’t have it any other way!). He and his wife have been happily married for seventeen years and share two children: a thirteen-year-old boy who is thriving in both baseball and the school band, as well as a four-year-old daughter with a rapidly-growing social calendar of birthday parties and playdates.

We’re so glad to have you as part of the W&A Engineering family and can’t wait to see you continue to build better communities across the country!
